How interesting it is an African antelope known as an Impala is capable of jumping to a height of 10 feet and able to cover some 33 feet in one leap. This incredible animal then lands on its forelegs, moves its hind legs in the air in a kicking fashion, and then lands on all fours and rebounds. Yet, these awesome creatures of God can be kept behind a short three-foot wall! The reason is for that is an Impala will not jump where they cannot see. They literally become a prisoner in their own made prison!
The ‘plight’ of an Impala who has eyes, yet cannot see, reminds me of a story of two men who were walking down a road headed for the nearest small town. This small ‘dot’ in the road was more a mere village than a town. As these two walked along the road, they did what most guys do! They talked! However, in the case they weren’t talking about family matters; jobs; the economy; not even political indifferences; or what each was driving. Street rods, muscle cars, nor daily drivers were not the focus of things on their minds. Yet they continued their walk, deep in thought, yet with occasional words shared about the sad news of the past days.
The two continued their journey when a stranger walked up and joined them as they walked. Unaware of who it was the stranger said, “You seem to be in a deep discussion about something. What are you talking about, leaving you so sad and gloomy?”
As Paul Harvey would say; “And now for the rest of the story!” The two asked the stranger, “Haven’t you heard? Are you the only one unaware of the things that have happened over the last few days?” And he asked, “What things?” Each man then took turns sharing the ‘outcome’ of those last few days with the stranger. After they finished the stranger said to them, ‘Why are you so thick-headed? Why do you find it so hard to believe every word the prophets have spoken?” It was then, “they looked at each other and said, ‘Why didn’t we recognize it was him?”
Do you know someone like these two? Or, just maybe that might be you in some area of life. Paul the apostle tells us in Romans 1 that the truth of God is instinctively been made known to every human, because God implanted this knowledge inside each human heart. Think of that! Simply put that means that Jesus walks alongside each and every one of us as we make our journey through life. Even when we give Him no thought! Or at times…even when we rebel knowing better, and still go in to that doughnut shop! (LOL) No one is, or will have any excuse. Paul went on to remind us that God’s fingerprints are upon, and throughout human history, even when many refuse to honor or to even be thankful for His wonderful kindness to them. So what then is left? Such a person is left with nothing more than their misguided thoughts and ideals, held behind…caged by their own lack of seeing…trapped in their own self-made enclosure similar to the African antelope’s limited view. Eyes, yet cannot see!
Like the two on the rode learned, no matter what size or type of ‘enclosure’ you may have placed yourself in because of failure or even sin, there is no barrier that will keep Jesus from loving and forgiving you, and coming alongside unless you allow your heart to be so hardened you turn completely away from Him. This is the reason He died upon the Cross! For all individuals like you and me! In order to show His love and forgiveness when we ask from a true repentant heart.
It is then Jesus will do as He did with the blind man in Mark 8. “Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes…and his eyes were opened. His sight was completely restored, and he could see everything clearly.”
