CRA Hot Rod Camp 2013 … Building a 1932 Ford Five-Window Coupe!
July 5, 2013
CRA Family and Friends,
We have now completed another CRA Hot Rod Camp. June 23-29 of this year we all came together, six young men joining with nine CRA Builder/Leaders to accomplish the goal of assembling a '32 5 window coupe. This year's camp was held in Mt. Sterling, Ohio at the shop of CRA board member Randy and Judy Scott. Each year I think the camps can't get any better; however, they are special in different ways. The six boys came from as far away as California to Indiana and Ohio. and they all came with anticipation and eager to learn. As always we started with the bare frame on Monday morning and on Saturday we rolled the very sharp '32 out of the shop. The positive thing is that we can hold close the memories, friendships, fellowship and blessings from now on. As I mentioned before, the campers came hungry for knowledge, and that fits our mission well! The purpose of the camp is to introduce the boys to the hobby of street rodding, which is a hobby that can be enjoyed by an entire family. Additionally we want to share Christian values with them that can help them be good husbands, fathers and in general provide them with Scriptures that will guide their lives to be good ethical citizens. We want them to be givers to society and not takers from society. God continues to do a great work in these camps.
I reflect back to 2005 when the vision of CRA Hot Rod Camps was introduced to the CRA family by Donavin Calmer. I remember thinking, what a great idea! I had no idea at the time just what a GREAT IDEA or vision it was. These camps provide an opportunity for men to share wisdom to an up and coming generation and most of all to share the love mercy and grace of God the Father. WOW!
Over the last eight years and eleven camps many faces have changed but the mission is still the same, "Building Cars—Changing Lives". This will always be our mission!
We were so blessed by community support in Mt. Sterling, Ohio. I want to thank Ben & Joys for all our breakfasts' while we were there; Larry's Pizza for our great pizza evening, and the Dairy Freeze for the lunches they provided as well as their hospitality for our "Ice-cream Cruise" evening. Randy & Judy, thank you for opening your home and shop to us for the week of the camp. The warmth you extended to all helped make the camp a success.
Rick, Randy, Kevin, Buck, Michael, Tim, Perry, and Jerry, THANK YOU; who could ask for a greater team! Your leadership in the build and most of all, the spiritual message each of you shared in devotionals and "Shop Talk" will rest in the hearts of the campers for years to come. Larry, thank you for all you did in helping Kevin and I in the pre-build prep of the '32 for the camp. Also thanks to Joe Goodrich for the beautiful paint work on the '32, the color is great. Ida, Judy, Theresa, Terry, and Pam, thank you for all the support, prayers and the great food! All of you help make the camp special.
Matt, Josh, Dakota, Brett, Thomas and Cody, thank you for making this another CRA Hot Rod Camp that we will never forget. And Thomas and Brett, your new decision to follow Christ is the best decision you will ever make in your life. You are a great group of young men and I know God has a blessed plan for your life. As we shared with you, you must follow His guidance in all you do. Always seek out His Word and your life will be much fuller.
A heart-felt thanks to all the vendors that supoort our camps. Your support helps make a tremendous difference in many lives.
