If Your Goal is Material…

You’re Missing the Point of Life!

For each of us, bad news is simply….BAD NEWS!  No one wants or likes to hear bad news!  In fact, no one wants or likes to even hear sad news, however, the (NLT) Bible reminds us in Psalms 112:7-8, “They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.  They are confident and fearless & can face their foes triumphantly.”

Yet, ‘BAD NEWS’ does, at times, descend upon all who draw breath!  I refer, in part about the tragic death of NBA’s incredible player, Kobe Bryant, along with his daughter ‘Gigi’, and the seven others aboard the helicopter that crashed in the hills of So. CA.  Then, in recent months there have been the deaths of those such as, NASCAR racer, Junior Johnson; former NFL running back George Atkinson III; and Valerie Harper (Mary Tyler Moore show) which have taken place.  Others were billionaire Ross Perot; automotive executive Lee Iacocca; Beth Chapman from The Dog the Bounty Hunter TV series; Tim Conway from the Carol Burnett Show; record-setting evangelist to Africa, Reinhard Bonnke; Bible Commentator Warren Wiersbe, and the faithful evangelist, Billy Graham.  These are only a few names we are familiar with who have departed this world for the next!

It was in 1992 that Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart died of multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. When Sam looked back on a lifetime of exceptional material success, he had just three words to say. “I blew it!”  By world’s standards, Walton had been one of the most successful individuals in the world.  However, by his own admission, he had failed! While he had worked hard and made billions, what good did money do for him when death knocked on his door?  Sam died at the young age of 74 years of age, having a new worth at that time of 25 billion, and running a company that employed 380,000 people.

We recently learned that radio broadcaster Rush Limbaugh announced he will be off the air on various days as he undergoes treatment for what doctors found in his body.  According to reports, Rush reaches a monthly audience of 14 million listeners each day on some 650 stations, being the number one talk show since 1987 when record keeping began. Salary?  $84.5 million for a twelve month scoring period, and yet he’s now facing “advanced lung cancer.”

Why are these men and women mentioned in this CRA Moment?  Because life is brief!  James says life is like the morning fog, here for a brief while, and then gone!  Only the Lord knows where these individuals are today, as well as where anyone alive today will spend eternity.  You and I know the truth that it is NOT God who is going around killing people, stealing from them, or even destroying their lives. Anything of such nature is to be contributed to none other than the devil.  Sadly, many have fallen for his lies!  John 10:10 tells us, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” However, Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (NIV).  This He spoke after His words in John 8:44 that, “He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

Proverbs 4:10-13 reminds us, “My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life. I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths.  When you walk, you won’t be held back; when you run, you won’t stumble.  Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go.  Guard them, for they are the key to life.”

Blessings, Psalm 20:7 Dale & Jeannie
