We just returned from a ten-day trip with a very special couple, Pastor Ron & Jenny Reiser, life-long friends. Ten-days of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner together, praying, talking, and discussing various truths of the Bible! Reflecting back on these wonderful days, this question came to mind. Was it a question from the Lord to my inner man? Or, was it a question I was simply asking myself in order that I would face how I would respond to the question? Here’s the question! What if a law were passed making it illegal to pray? What if you could no longer bow your head and pray in a restaurant before or after your meal arrived, or could no longer pray in church, or, in your home?
While we more often than not had a table for just the four of us, there was a time or two we were seated with another couple. Again, what if there was a law making prayer illegal in public? As for the four of us, we prayed at breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, fully knowing we would have not done anything contrary, and furthermore, thankful that we could tell the Lord from our heart that we were thankful for his provisions. This, along with also thanking Him for cleansing that which was being prepared, and, in proper time brought to us at our table.
While on shore we walked passed a couple when I noticed the wife wrapping her husband’s four fingers with fresh bandages. Just a brief time later we came across this same couple, when this time I asked about his injuries. After explaining what the issue was, this time, Jeannie asked if we could pray for him. Both he and his wife responded saying they were believers and would appreciate prayers for God to undertake with the situation he was battling. We sought no location to be out-of-sight while praying Jeannie prayed and claimed healing according to I Peter 2: 24. A couple of days later Jenny and Jeannie stopped right in the midst of the tourist area of Cabo San Lucas and prayed, declaring healing over Jenny’s back, (which incidentally has been bad for some time with the doctors saying surgery was needed. In addition she could not walk very far with her back issue without incident) Need I say, Jenny has been walking – doing yard work – in fact, a text ‘just’ came from her saying she just laid 26 bags of mulch alone and she is rejoicing in the healing of her back! ‘What a God!’ Obedience, Faith and Pursuit! Luke 9:26 says, “If anyone is ashamed of Me and My message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when He returns in His glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.”
In the parable of the sower in Mark 4:15, Jesus said, “The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come at once and take it away.” How interesting that when it comes to a football, baseball, or basketball game, a two-hour plus movie, either on TV or in the movie theater, some have a continual twitch sitting through a forty-five minute sermon on Sunday. Then, for some, if asked what the pastor said from the pulpit would come up short expressing what the Bible message was.
Consider Daniel in chapter 6, “Give orders that any person who prays to anyone, divine or human—except to you, Your Majesty (King Darius) will be thrown into the den of lions.” Verse 10, “But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to God.”
There is a huge difference between what we do and who we are…the choice is ours.
Blessings, Psalm 20:7 Dale & Jeannie
