Where is Everybody?!

News reports one after the other are found asking the question of this week’s CRA Moment! Is anyone really out there? In the recent edition of Popular Science, there is an article entitled, “The likeliest locales to spot UFO’s.” Here is what scientists say they have uncovered. “One data-analytics researcher found that 61% of sighting reports occurred within 24 miles of a military installation. Nearly three-quarters of saucer reports with a timestamp happened in the dark, but not necessarily, because aliens hide in the shadows. Though you might not have heard yet, the 37th parallel passing through Area 51 is rumored to be a veritable traffic jam of flying saucers, at least according to some UFO researchers. Between 2001 and 2018, there have been 2,863 UFO sightings reported on Independence Day—more than seven times the 24-hour average.” Indeed, the question of life on other planets is a hot topic in today’s culture.

Pascal stated, “If we will not fill our emptiness with God, we will fill it with something or someone else.” The truth is, the idea of extraterrestrial life on other planets stems mainly from a belief in evolution. Recently NASA’s chief scientist Ellen Stofan made a bold prediction about how soon she believes we will discover proof of alien life on other planets. She stated, “I think we’re going to have strong indications of life beyond earth within a decade, and I think we’re going to have definitive evidence within 20 to 30 years. We know where to look. We know how to look. In most cases we have the technology, and we’re on a path to implementing it.”

A 2012 survey reported that more than a third of Americans believe aliens have visited the earth, and only about 1/5th do not believe ‘aliens’ have. The rest were undecided. Secular astronomers continue to search for life on other worlds, but they have found only rocks and non-living matter. Their radio searches are met with silence. A Sept. 9, ’19 article by Christopher Carbone, Fox News reported that Jonathan Carroll-Nellenback, a computational scientist and the study’s leading author, told Business Insider, “Either nobody leaves their planet, or we are in fact the only technological civilization in the galaxy.”

When we give thought to life on other planets, what is it we really looking for? Many believe that some alien ‘life’ will tell us the secrets of our purpose on earth. There are others who believe that space beings we encounter could hold the key to health and eternal life. They say these aliens and UFO’s are their hope for something beyond themselves.

My questions is; what if the mystery and purpose of life has already been discovered? What if our hope for ‘someone to talk with’ is already here? Isaiah 45:18 reads, “For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord, and there is no other.” It is to become known and have a relationship with, that Jesus Himself came down to live and walk among mankind, and then to die and rise again for our salvation. In Mark 5:19 Jesus said, “Go…to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” “You can be sure that I will be with you always, I will continue with you until the end of time” (ERV) Jesus did not come and die for Martians or other extraterrestrials; He came as the ‘God-man’ to die for mankind, descendants of Adam and Eve.

In an article by Dr. Jason Lisle, he wrote, “When we consider how the salvation plan might apply to any hypothetical extraterrestrial beings, we are presented with a problem. If there were “Vulcans or Klingons” out there, how would they be saved? They are not blood bought by Jesus, and so His blood cannot pay for their sin. One might suggest that Christ also visited their world, lived there, and died there as well, but that is anti-biblical.” I Peter 3:18 tells us, “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.”

Who is it that is ‘really out there?’ Psalm 115:16 reads, “The Lord has kept the heavens for himself, but He has given the earth to us humans” (CEV).

Blessings, Psalm 20:7 Dale & Jeannie
