“Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, ‘Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him’.” Exodus 32:1
How is it possible after the Israelites had witnessed the miracles of God that took place in front of their eyes, that they would soon turn to wanting an idol fashioned to serve as their god rather than the One true God? Remember, this was after miraculously crossing the Red Sea and watching the great Egyptian army drowned in the sea following the last of the Israelites placing their sandaled-feet on safe ground. Would this not be enough reminder of God’s power and His presence of how when they were hungry, and thirsty, He gave manna from heaven and water for thirst, causing water to flow from the rock for their drink? Sadly, as for many today, the answer is NOT! Not when the devil and his cohorts are as ambitious as they are in causing discouragement, doubt, and faith to wear down society physically and mentally to the point where its questioned if the Lord spoke in the first place.
For the Israelites, what was it that took place to cause them to take their focus from God’s direction and turn to trusting in human reasoning? Ex. 32:1 gives understanding: “Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain…” Delayed? In whose mind? The Israelites had made a slight miscalculation in the 40 days and nights Moses would be on Mt. Sinai, and when he failed to appear when ‘they thought’ he should, they panicked and lost faith. Jewish historians teach that Moses was no more than six hours late in coming down the mountain, and had they waited the whole terrible mess could have been avoided!
Today, my heart aches, and I confess my stomach to be unsettled a good portion of waking hours. The numbers of individuals…church-going people; even a large and growing number of pastors; along with a majority of those in political office have gone rogue in their faith…not believing the intent of God’s heart for America and its benefit to the world during the next four-years. I even have family members that think I’m out to lunch! However, there is “My time,” and there is “Divine time,” which is God’s timing! “My time” is when I think things should work out and there is “Divine time,” which is the perfect, God-given, and God-ordained time for God Himself to act.
While society has been dumbed down to believe one-sided reports, statistics, and warnings, seen and heard, eyes have been closed to the greater issues taking place today. Today’s issues boil down to either having faith or being faithless in the God Who desires to perform miracles right before our eyes. Our gods of choice have become masks who we’ve made into idols that we’ve trusted in to bring “us up out of the land of (our) Egypt!”
All the while God has been wanting us to see the deeper and more critical issues. Number one is the critical point of the Gospel being on the edge of being curtailed and no longer shared in America, and to other nations of the world. And, for the opening of our churches! For freedom to ring once again in America…the Nation, along with Israel God chose for a time such as this. And that we would have a glimpse of how life would be under dictatorship, and not a president chosen by Him.
I pray it’s not too late for faith to arise in the faithless. Faith to arise like that of Joshua and Caleb who even after standing before the negativity of the ten were able to say, “We are more than able to take the land!”
