And that’s Wisdom!

Proverbs 4 is power-packed with words of wisdom!  Words in the 27 verses such as “pay attention, don’t turn away, follow my commands, get wisdom, develop good judgment, whatever else you do, listen to me, do as I say, guard them, don’t lose sight, let them penetrate, and guard your heart,” turns our focus toward receiving wise advice from our Heavenly Father.  Verse 4 in the Names of God (NOG) translation reads, “Cling to my words wholeheartedly.  Obey my commands so that you may live.”

The Bible has a great deal to say about wisdom, for instance Exodus 31:6 reminds us the Lord has “put wisdom in the hearts of all…” while Job 28:18 tells us “the price of wisdom is above rubies.”   David requested of the Lord to “Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.”  Solomon, his son, penned in Proverbs 2:6, “The Lord gives wisdom, and out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding,” and chapter16 verse 6 reads, “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!”

Today I listen to many who talk about the stock market … and are they making the right investment choices.  In addition, some are concerned whether they have purchased enough gold!  Not that either of those are bad … it is more about tuning in to God’s Word and gaining Godly wisdom.

Jesus, in Matthew 7:24 taught the crowd “A wise man, will build his house upon a rock.”  And it was James who wrote in his letter that none could ever say they lacked wisdom, for in James 1:5 his teaching was precise; “If any lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally…”

We are living in troubled times and many, even people of faith, wonder how everything that is taking place in the world could be part of God’s plan.  As we wonder where it’s all headed, we must remember that as people of Biblical faith, while we may not know how everything will play out in the end, the victory of God is most definitely assured.  And there’s no greater wisdom then that!

J.I. Packer in his book “Knowing God” wrote these words of wisdom. “Once you become aware that the main business you are here for is to know God, most of life’s problems fall into place of their own accord.”  And that’s Wisdom!
