The other evening at a Bible Study, I opened the evening by saying, “I learned way too late in life that God is a great deal smarter than I am!”
How is it that we go about getting God to do what we want; what we need; desire; ‘dream’ about? If we agree that God is smarter than we are, the answer can be summed up in a brief few words . . . ‘We have it all backwards!’ God is trying to get you and me to do what He wants…because His way is perfect…and ours is obviously not!
Psalm 18:30 in the Passion Translation reads, “What a God You are! Your path for me has been perfect! All Your promises have proven true. What a secure shelter for all those who turn to hide themselves in You! You are the wrap-around God giving grace to me.” The KJV and others read, “He is a shield to all!” The question is, is He really a shield to all? Yes He is, if we ‘cooperate’ with Him, doing as the remainder of the verse says to do. What is that? He is a shield for ALL “who trust in Him,” while the NLT states He is a “shield for ALL who look to Him for protection.” The TLB says, “He is a shield for EVERYONE who hides behind Him.” God is trying to get us to do what He wants…because His way is perfect…and ours is not!
Isaiah 55:8, 9; “For my thoughts about mercy are not like your thoughts, and my ways are different from yours. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so my ways and my thoughts are higher than yours.” Imagine a two-year-old telling his parents what they should be doing. It’s even crazier to think we know more than God about what is best, and that we need to tell Him what to do! Look at what our decisions have produced so far…little more than a mess! Our minds and thinking need to be under new management!
We need to allow Jesus to be the Lord of our life! We are living in challenging times! All people, everywhere, are coming under all sort of attacks. If we desire to live as an OVERCOMER, then it is vital that we personally know Jesus as the Lord of our life. That means He is NUMBER ONE. For Him to be “Lord of our life” means; He is the authority; He has control; He has our respect of being smarter than we are. If we really believe He is “the way, the truth, and the life,” as John 14:6 says He is, then, we will be willing to submit to His Lordship. Submit means to work in cooperation with Him and His desire and design for our lives.
He never asks anything of us we are unable to do, and because He only wants the best for us, it requires a laying down of self on our part in order to discover how powerful His Lordship really is. When Jesus is Lord of our life, we will not blame others for why we are the way we are! We will accomplish far greater things than making excuses why we are not what we should be. For as long as we have an excuse, we will not obey God!
As long as a person is on the road to destruction, why should God give them a new car and gas money to get on down the road? Many of the decisions we have made in life have produced wrecks in our lives! You can know beyond a shadow of doubt that God wants to meet your every need, however, most of all, He wants renewed relationship with you.
Blessings, Psalm 20:7 Dale & Jeannie
