With all that is taking place in our world today, many admit to being extremely concerned about what the future holds for mankind. So much so that it must appear to any rational person that events of the day are completely out of control, like a train off its rails. Empty promises spewed from the mouths of political leaders have left society believing very little of what they hear. Then follows, so many of their decisions that are being made are totally opposite of America’s beginnings that was based on a society of godly Judeo Christian values. And what positive words can even begin to be espoused about today’s news-broadcasters! Albeit very few believe in, and therefore, have given up on their form of reporting news.
There are times when the public begins to wonder if God’s plan…His initial plan…His first plan…is unfolding according to plan A. However, we are assured from Bible verses we read, that it indeed is! In complete truth, God does not even have a plan B, and His plan A is proceeding according to design…His design! As He has designed as the Creator of this world, God’s plan is actually unfolding precisely according to His perfect way and in His perfect time!
Today a very similar event is taking place much the same as in the time of the prophetic announcement to a ruler by the name of Cyrus who was king of Persia. In study of history we learn that in Persia, (Iran of today), Cyrus lived between 580 to about 530 before Christ Jesus was on earth, yet God used him as a tool to bring about His divine purposes. In Isaiah 45, Cyrus was given the opportunity to gain a glimpse into the future when He was shown ‘God plan A’.
“This is what the Lord says to Cyrus, the anointed one, whose right hand he will empower. Before him, mighty kings will be paralyzed with fear. Their fortress gates will be opened, never to shut again.” Verse 2 continues, “This is what the Lord says; I will go before you, Cyrus, and level the mountains. I will smash down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. And I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness— secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name.” Verse 5, “I am the Lord, there is no other God. I have equipped you for battle…”
What would you choose if you were given a choice to know what each day in the future would be like? What would you choose? As I mulled that over, I began to appreciate the fact that not knowing what each day ahead holds is actually a great blessing sent to us from our Heavenly Father. Imagine if you knew the details of each day that lay ahead that were going to be difficult, painful and troubling. The pain that would come today from knowing what’s coming down the road tomorrow would begin at the moment you first knew. From that moment on it could be difficult to enjoy times of happiness while knowing they were going to end with trouble. In addition, if we knew what the future would be like, we would also know at that moment the effect of things done or words spoken that were hurtful to them. And who wants to see ahead the damage done to another in a moment of anger or prideful actions.
Jesus spoke these words in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Let’s agree to be grateful for what we do know, however, thankful also for what we don’t know and that God’s Plan A is moving steadily ahead according to His design!
