Stop the World & Let Me Off!

The year was 1957, just twelve days before Christmas when Patsy Cline first sang the song, “Stop the World & Let Me Off.”  Later, The Anita Kerr Singers picked up the song, and shortly after, Waylon Jennings did so as well. For those who never heard Waylon sing it, here’s a verse with the chorus.

“Stop the world and let me off! I’m tried of going round and round. I’ve played the game of love and lost. So stop the world, and let me off.  My dream’s are shattered don’t you see. Now you no longer care for me.  I miss the wonder of your kiss, how could you leave me here like this?  (Sounds like a country western song, right?)  Stop the world and let me off!  I’m tired of going round and round, I’ve played the game of love and lost. So stop the world and let me off.”

That may by the way you are feeling about all the going’s-on about this year’s 2020 election.  It’s enough to leave even the casual observer, exhausted.  With all the media outlets, and political narratives framing their views to fit their own agendas, it leaves most asking a valid question.  “Is what they are saying true, or is it being concocted to fit a company’s view point, drawn up and mapped out in some type of ‘corporate’ boardroom meeting?

However, there was one very accurate reporter whose words we can fully trust!  That is, a man called Paul who wrote these words to the church at Phillipi.  Phil. 4:8-9 reads, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, & honorable, & right, & pure, & lovely, & admirable. Think about things that are excellent & worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned & received from me(Paul)—everything you heard from me & saw me doing.  Then the God of peace will be with you.”  The Word of God is the genuine reporting you can take to the bank!

While the world has thrown every type of junk-garbage-headlines at us, Paul speaks directly to our inner person, telling us what we are to do to combat all the world attempts being fired our way.  The media’s established plans and purpose is to distort, confuse, and more times than not to straight out is to mislead us; while their goal is to program society to what they desire to come about in our lives, and in our cities and towns.

Paul, totally the opposite said we’re to fill our minds with “truth, justice, purity, loveliness, and goodness;” he said, only then will our hearts be filled with the “God of peace” being with us.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:6, “Don’t let anyone mislead you…they will deceive many…sin will be rampant everywhere, & the love of many will grow cold.  But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”  “So you must keep watch!  For you do not know the day or hour of My return” (Mt. 25:13).

From now until then, the words Patsy Cine, the Anita Kerr Singers, & Waylon Jennings sang, are not words to be in our vocabulary.  Rather the words of Jesus in Luke 19:13 to “Conduct business until I return!”
